Buy a New Car in San Diego and save money!
October 11, 2010 on 5:27 pm | In In and around San Diego, Other topics of interest | 1 CommentBuying a New car in San Diego can be challenging!
Buying a new car can be a very challenging task for any customer. Mattress Man always buys his cars from Mossy Nisan. I choose this business based upon the pricing set for everyone. There is no need to spend the afternoon haggling or negotiating for a good price. They have set prices on the windows of every new car. This is the same price everyone pays and they dont offer a lower price in most cases. Many car lots have different approaches to get the most cash out of your pockets and also finance you with a very high interest rate.
Some car lots use a 4 square approach. This is a blank piece of paper with 4 large squares on it. They list the inflated price on square 1 with an unrealistic down payment. This puts the customer in check and makes you really think. “Oh I am buying a car and I need $4000.00 for a down payment.” He writes the inflated price as well as $4000.00 down in square 1 and looks at you for your surprise. He then works with you in square 2 with a smaller down payment and then he leaves and approaches the “manager”. Manager crosses out square 2 and rights in a new number in square 3. This new number is nothing you want either. At this point square 4 is filled out and he goes back to Manager and then manger will return with salesman. Another approach is similar but a monthly payment will be listed and it will be beginning with $700.00 or higher. The $700.00 is not for a high end car but a honda accord.
By using Mossy you can avoid this long drawn out process.
Phase 2 of the process is the trade in. Your best to never trade in. Know the kelly blue book trade in value. You can always negotiate your trade in value within reason. Get your keys back if you shop at another dealer. To keep you their longer your keys will need to be tracked down while the manager has one last shot at your business.
Phase 3 negotiate your interest rate. If you have good credit and you know it then demand a low interest rate. Do research before you go shopping. If you have bad credit be happy with any finance rate. If you have ok then expect 13% If you have good then expect 7-9%. If you have great then expect 0.00% to 5% depending on other programs dealer is offering.
Phase 4 is the finance office. Put your wallet away and hold onto your cash. Put your poker face on. You will need to have courage when you walk through these doors. The money on all lots are made on this back end.
Here is a list of add ons you will be asked to buy.
- Alarm
- Extended Warranty
- LoJack
- Exterior / Interior protection.
- Gap Insurance
If you decline any of the above.. Dont worry your not out of the woods yet. You will get asked 2-3 times on each with lower attached prices. They will tell you. You can cancel if you dont want it later.
Decline all of the above and if you feel the need purchase it later at a lower price GUARANTEED!
I have always declined all of the coverages. A sad note is that last time in Mossy Nissan in Poway the Finance guy was upset that I declined. The Finance person makes their money by selling these add on’s. However proper and professional attitudes should be had to preserve customer and dealer relationships.
When shopping for that dream car keep common sense and shop within your budget. Don’t over extend yourself. Yes you may be that raise but then again you might get laid off. Avoid all dealers that give you a hard time or make you feel uncomfortable. Avoid most negative aspects of car shopping by going to Mossy Nissan. With your money saved by shopping here you can invest this new saved money on a good nights sleep. If you choose to shop elsewhere still come back and you can charge you new mattress purchase because you will need a good nights sleep due to the lost sleep you will incur because you didn’t listen to the San Diego Mattress Man.
I have bought over 5 cars from Mossy Nissan.
What are your car buying stories?
Mother nature changes weather forcast in San Diego
October 9, 2010 on 2:04 pm | In In and around San Diego | No CommentsIt’s always Sunny in San Diego – Well not in 2010
Living in San Diego we have been accustomed to warm weather throughout the summer. What happen to our usual pattern of April showers and May Gray turning to June gloom. Its no longer sunny in San Diego! I am not sure if records have been set but the June gloom played out all summer long. Tourists from everywhere where surprised arriving into San Diego. Where is the sun? Some inland residents welcomed the June gloom weather as they needed a break from the high electric bills that the summer usually brings.
By Sept we passed the unusual weather patterns and have since returned to a more normal pattern of sunshine. However someone forgot to let Mother Nature to heat up the place. With all of San Diego on lower than normal temperatures we had no chance of rolling blackouts we had in previous years. The long days of summer heat and weeks of temperatures in the 90′s inland never approached.
Our fire season is approaching and we may or may not have the usual danger we have had in past years. If the weather holds the same pattern the city can save much needed money not paying to have air tankers and helicopters standing by to combat fires this fall. Residents can relax and not worry about their homes. Many residents have lost their home in recent years past. Weather forecasters have their work set out for them this year. With the arrival of winter who knows what weather has in store for us. We may have a wetter winter than in years past. While the rain is not here yet this gives us time to go out to the beach or shopping for a new mattress or bedroom set. Who knows we might have record rain falls and eel the need to spend more time in bed. San Diego Mattress Man suggest taking the time now to shop for a new mattress before bad weather approaches and be prepared to have a nice comfy mattress for this winter season.

Bed bugs attack Downtown San Diego Fire Station
October 5, 2010 on 10:12 am | In Other topics of interest | No CommentsEmergency Fire workers noticed bed bugs at Station #1 in Downtown San Diego this past weekend. Exterminators where called in to combat the problem. This is a familiar problem for the fire department as this is the 7th case since July this year. Firefighters visit allot of places and bring their gear with them and this is one of the main reasons the bugs keep coming. Bed bugs have been a problem in the US for quite sometime but increasing cases are being reported due to increasing international travel.
A bed bug can survive a whole year without feeding. The average lifespan of the bugs are 1 year but then can have a shorter span if they are able to feed more often. The less sources of feeding sources the longer they live. A female can lay up to 300 to 500 eggs per bug. The new eggs hatch in as soon as 12 days.
Too avoid bed begs its recommend that when traveling that you keep suitcases away from the bed and up on a dresser or suitcase rack. Avoid picking up or buying used beds. If you suspect you have bed bugs wash bedding and clothing in warm water. Purchase a mattress casing for the mattress and hire a professional. Most cases of bed bugs can not be treated by over the counter products.
San Diego Mattress Man suggests never buy a used or re-built mattress. Rebuilt mattress’s need to be sprayed properly but there is no 100% way to make sure it was properly disinfected before a new cover was placed over the infested bed. With the price of a new mattress still affordable we suggest replacing the mattress only with a cheap new one and get rid of the box spring if you cant afford a complete set. Call or visit to see the prices of a mattress set. A good nights sleep is what the body needs to function properly.
Mattress Man says, If you need a mattress buy the most expensive mattress you can afford. Don’t go broke but buy a mattress that fits your budget. Queen size mattress’s sell for $249.00 all the way to $4000.00. Our average queen size mattress set we sell is $799. There is a mattress set for every budget. Our sales associates will help guide you with your needs in mind to a mattress that fits your budget and not what we want. There is noting worse than a dishonest approach. Have you ever been to a electronics store and shopping for a new computer and find that the sales person suggests a particular model. Well you may not know that the company pays extra for moving certain models. At Mattress Man we respect customers and never suggest a mattress based on an a financial motive.
Stress O Pedic Mattress Company
October 4, 2010 on 4:24 pm | In Mattress Information | No CommentsSan Diego Mattress Man recommends as top choice for “off” brands. Most of us have seen the commercials during our life time. We all know Sealy, Serta, Simmons, and some of still remember Stearns & Foster. Well another contender on the market is Stress O Pedic Mattress.
Stress O Pedic Mattress based in Los Angeles has been swooping up the market share on mattress sales. As a bedding retailer we shop many private retailers markets and learn about up and coming brands and also about companies with new products. After careful review we have chosen to carry Stress O Pedic Mattress. We have floor 5 models for 1 year now. As of date we have not had any warranty issues. This itself proves to us that Stress O Pedic is a quality made mattress. One of the reasons Stress O Pedic holds up is due to the construction if the mattress. Quality is assured with the method Stress O Pedic uses with the construction and tempering of the springs.
Although the method of construction is more costly and time consuming than our competitors construction, Stress-O-Pedic feels this is the only true way to achieve a product with superior performance and lasting quality.
Each product that is manufacture is made using this Uni-bond construction. This should be one of your number one concerns when purchasing premium foam encased products offered in today’s market.
When most retailers make a decision to carry a manufacture allot of time and research is used to make a decision. San Diego Mattress Man wants to make sure customers satisfaction is our number one goal. We choose Stress O Pedic based upon facts of excellent customer reviews of the product. Stress O Pedic is a company that stands behind quality built mattress’s. Mattress Man suggests the pocketed coil models that Stress O Pedic has.
Shopping for a new Mattress
October 2, 2010 on 4:02 pm | In Mattress Information | No CommentsWe all know it and seem to put it off. You need a new mattress. Who wants to think about spending money and planning to spend an entire day shopping for a new mattress. There are so many brands and so many stores. Do I need a new box spring as well as a mattress? These and many other questions make the purchase of a new mattress feel like going to the dentist.
Good news in the age of email and internet shopping for a mattress is a breeze. Do some research before you go out shopping.
We spend a third of our lives in bed why sleep in an old saggy worn out mattress. Our hours awake are very important. People dont get 8 hours of sleep anymore. Why not get a better 6 hours of sleep. Make sure you choose your new mattress wisely as you will have to deal with it for 7 to 10 years.
When its time to go shopping wear comfortable clothes and also maybe have shoes that are easy to remove so you can get comfortable. Plan on going to 2 stores that you have researched on-line and your satisfied with that company. When you get to the store the salesperson will help guide you toward the best mattress for you. Be up front with the sales person. Tell them how much you want to spend and they will do their best to find a couple of models for you to compare. Most sales associates want to make sure you get the right mattress and within your budget. No sales person wants you to call them the next day after delivery and complain about the new mattress.
You want to avoid this at all costs by taking your time and laying on the mattress for 10 to 15 minutes. Kindly ask the sales person for some time to get a feel for the mattress. If you feel the salesperson is making you feel nervous or they are being too pushy then this may not be the place to shop.
While your at the mattress store try the lasted models on the market. Memory Foam mattress’s have made great changes in recent years. In fact Memory Foam makes up 25% – 30% of San Diego Mattress Man Sales.
When shopping for a guest room or for yourself forget about the old wise tale. ” Firm mattress is good for back support.” This is a myth and a firm mattress is not for everyone. If your looking for a guest room mattress you may satisfy most guests with a cushion firm or a firm pillow top mattress.
So you have visited 2 stores and you have found a mattress that you like at both but one costs more than the other. You like the more expensive mattress. Do you settle for a cheaper mattress? Remember this mattress will be yours for 10 years and saving 100.00 over this long period does not make much sense. You can even ask the salesperson if they will offer a better price to help you make a decision. Some times there are unannounced sales and you could be getting that more expensive mattress at the same price. San Diego Mattress Man suggests that you try memory foam and pillow top mattress’s while shopping.
Casinos In San Diego – Your choice is almost endless!
October 2, 2010 on 11:18 am | In In and around San Diego | No CommentsIf you have the need to play the tables or just play with the slots then as a San Diego Resident your choices are endless. There are casinos throughout San Diego county. Depending on where you live gaming action is usually not farther than 15 minutes away. Many are located in the east county area and also north east inland.
The big casinos that hot most of San Diego are Barona, Viejas, and Sycuan. Barona offers hotel accommodations as well as an award winning golf course. If your looking to sip on a beer or mixed drink while you play then your choices are slimmer. You can visit Viejas and still enjoy your drinks. Viejas also has outlet stores as well.
If you have never been to a local casino here then you will find that they are identical to the casinos in Vegas. They all have high end restaurants as well as all you can eat Buffets. No need to drive 5 hours away in a car to earn your chance at becoming the next millionaire. What you wont find is the atmosphere that Vegas offers. The lights and the big name hotels and the amount of money spent at the casinos. The casino’s in Vegas have no problem spending your money to upgrade their hotels. If you have not been to Vegas recently then you will be in for a shock.
Barona Casino – Located in east county near Lakeside
Sycuan Casino – Located just east of El Cajon
Viejas Casino – Located in east county off freeway 8
Pala Casino – Located in North County in Pala
Pechanga – Located North of San Diego in Temecula
There are many other casinos located in San Diego that are of a large scale but are not listed here. San Diego Mattress Man suggests going to Barona as they have a hotel on property and you can play all night and sleep all day. Another positive thing to mention is that Barona has all Sealy Pillow top Mattress’s in all its guests rooms. Did you know that more Orthopedic Surgeons suggest sleeping on a Sealy Posturepedic than any other mattress. It looks like Barona Casino is looking out for its guests!

- Barona Casino
- Pala Casino
- Pechanga Casino
- Sycuan Casino
Disney Wonder Cruise ship returns to LA port for a Mexican Riveria Cruise.
October 1, 2010 on 11:00 pm | In In and around San Diego | No CommentsStarting in January 2011 you can now board the Disney Wonder and cruise the Mexican Rivera. With stops in Mazatlan, Puerto Vallarta, and Cabo San Lucas this sail is packed with fun. Disney is geared towards kids and teens but this ship also caters to the adults. Disney is creating a vacation for the entire family. The kids can go and do supervised planned activities while the adults can enjoy a day at the spa being pampered. Not every family can afford a Disney cruise vacation. Prices on Disney are higher than its 2 other counterparts offering the same cruise itinerary.
Cruise goers also have their choice of sailing with Carnival Cruise Lines, and Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines. They all make the same stops and also all have programs for kids and adults. What you will find with Disney is lots of Characters running around the ship. Everybody loves Tiger right? Well most small kids and adults but some toddlers may run in the other direction. Its hard for some of them to see them in person.

A quick comparison on prices for a cruise for 2 at the time of this posting revealed a slight price difference. For a 7 day identical cruise on these ships varied slightly.
- Disney Wonder was $1538.00
- Carnival Cruise was $970.00
- Royal Caribbean was $1416.00
Which one is the right cruise ship for me?
- Disney is your choice if you have children 4 to 10 and have some extra money to spend for being on a “Disney” cruise.
- Carnival is a good choice for the children 8 to 14. This ship tends to have lots of kids and also younger adults aboard these ships.
- Royal is good for children 4 to 18 and tends to caters for to the more mature parents.

All three ships will have lots of kids and many programs to keep the young ones busy from dawn to dusk. If your childless and between 20 to 40 then Carnival is your ship. If your over 30 and have no kids you may be interested in a more quiet ship like the Royal. There are many other cruise lines if you want less interaction with the little ones. Isn’t a vacation a time away to relax? Well fro some and also a time for many to spend time together as a family and kids are our family.
So you have your bags packed and ready to make a purchase. You have checked all the sites and found the best price. You even know the cruise itinerary and what level you want to have your room on. Did you know that most cruise lines sell at the same price at all the travel websites? There is one way to save some money and that is by with on-board credits. This is a dollar amount that put in your name for when you board the ship. Its like a charge account with a credit balance. Once you get aboard the ship you can charge your purchases and drinks and shore excursions with this card.
Since all travel brokers sell the tickets at the same price but there are no restrictions on how much money they can put in your account to get your business. This on board ranges from $50 to over $300 depending on how much money you spend on your cruise. A third party site I have used on 3 occasions has offered me the best on board credits. You enter your cruise line of choice and the actual cruise date and ship. Within hours you will get several travel agents bidding for your business. There will be at least 6 offers within 12 hours. Some will be similar and some will be a little better. You don’t need to accept any offers but its a good idea not do submit a request if you have no intention of buying as there is a human on the other end. This site is called Cruise Complete. Keep in mind cruise prices go up near spring break and as it get closer to spring break they keep going up. I have never seen the prices go down within 3 months of sailing. In fact the prices will rise as the ship fills up.
One last final suggestion is to do lots of research before you cruise. Buying your shore excursions from the cruise line is more expensive but less risky. Many reputable business’s in ports have websites and you can do reviews about excursions. I have always purchased my excursions before we set sail and purchased direct. The savings can be 30.00 to 100.00 per person depending upon the activity. The Cruise excursions can be like a cattle call. One example is 30 people pay 50.00 for a bus tour around the city that lasts 3 hours. Another cruiser purchases direct for $30 and they have a personal tour of the island for 5 hours with 8 people on the air condition van. Is their risks? There are risks in everyday life choices. Do your research and reviews and you common sense. I have never had a bad experience yet. Always buy insurance when you rent jet skis or any motor vehicle when your traveling abroad.
Please feel free to ask or post any suggestions. San Diego Mattress Man suggest getting a suite or the best room in the house as they will have the most comfortable mattress’s aboard. Do you think that the ship crew will be sleeping on a memory foam mattress or will just the Caption of the ship? In fact the mattress’s in the cheaper rooms have always been nice and comfy!
