Buy a New Car in San Diego and save money!

Buying a new car can be a very challenging task for any customer. Mattress Man always buys his cars from Mossy Nisan. I choose this business based upon the pricing set for everyone. There is no need to spend the afternoon haggling or negotiating for a good price. They have set prices on the windows of every new car. This is the same price everyone pays and they dont offer a lower price in most cases. Many car lots have different approaches to get the most cash out of your pockets and also finance you with a very high interest rate.
Some car lots use a 4 square approach. This is a blank piece of paper with 4 large squares on it. They list the inflated price on square 1 with an unrealistic down payment. This puts the customer in check and makes you really think. “Oh I am buying a car and I need $4000.00 for a down payment.” He writes the inflated price as well as $4000.00 down in square 1 and looks at you for your surprise. He then works with you in square 2 with a smaller down payment and then he leaves and approaches the “manager”. Manager crosses out square 2 and rights in a new number in square 3. This new number is nothing you want either. At this point square 4 is filled out and he goes back to Manager and then manger will return with salesman. Another approach is similar but a monthly payment will be listed and it will be beginning with $700.00 or higher. The $700.00 is not for a high end car but a honda accord.
By using Mossy you can avoid this long drawn out process.
Phase 2 of the process is the trade in. Your best to never trade in. Know the kelly blue book trade in value. You can always negotiate your trade in value within reason. Get your keys back if you shop at another dealer. To keep you their longer your keys will need to be tracked down while the manager has one last shot at your business.
Phase 3 negotiate your interest rate. If you have good credit and you know it then demand a low interest rate. Do research before you go shopping. If you have bad credit be happy with any finance rate. If you have ok then expect 13% If you have good then expect 7-9%. If you have great then expect 0.00% to 5% depending on other programs dealer is offering.
Phase 4 is the finance office. Put your wallet away and hold onto your cash. Put your poker face on. You will need to have courage when you walk through these doors. The money on all lots are made on this back end.
Here is a list of add ons you will be asked to buy.
- Alarm
- Extended Warranty
- LoJack
- Exterior / Interior protection.
- Gap Insurance
If you decline any of the above.. Dont worry your not out of the woods yet. You will get asked 2-3 times on each with lower attached prices. They will tell you. You can cancel if you dont want it later.
Decline all of the above and if you feel the need purchase it later at a lower price GUARANTEED!
I have always declined all of the coverages. A sad note is that last time in Mossy Nissan in Poway the Finance guy was upset that I declined. The Finance person makes their money by selling these add on’s. However proper and professional attitudes should be had to preserve customer and dealer relationships.
When shopping for that dream car keep common sense and shop within your budget. Don’t over extend yourself. Yes you may be that raise but then again you might get laid off. Avoid all dealers that give you a hard time or make you feel uncomfortable. Avoid most negative aspects of car shopping by going to Mossy Nissan. With your money saved by shopping here you can invest this new saved money on a good nights sleep. If you choose to shop elsewhere still come back and you can charge you new mattress purchase because you will need a good nights sleep due to the lost sleep you will incur because you didn’t listen to the San Diego Mattress Man.
I have bought over 5 cars from Mossy Nissan.
What are your car buying stories?

Thanks for the post. I have been to mossy before and this is what happens! I hate shopping for a new car! Another option is to go to your credit union and get pre approved.
